Ramallah, 1 February 2017, WAFA: Education and Higher Education Minister Sabri Saidam and atTanal Secretary-General Abdur Raouf Zuhdi Mustafa signed an agreement on Wednesday to recognise the International Certificate of Proficiency in Arabic.
Saidam said signing on behalf of the government demonstrated awareness of the importance of developing and protecting Arabic, strengthening its teaching and learning, and understanding the challenges and obstacles facing it.
He noted the agreement came amid contemporary changes and challenges affecting Arabic and other languages. A proportion of atTanal test fees would be allocated as a grant supporting Palestinian students' education.
Mustafa said the agreement establishing and recognising atTanal in Palestine showed a strong commitment to Arabic. He noted that Palestine was among the first countries worldwide to adopt this agreement.
The agreement contains ten articles. Key provisions cover recognition of the atTanal International Certificate of Proficiency in Arabic in Palestine under the institution's standards. The institution or its representative must provide and equip the required centres and branches and qualified staff to administer and supervise tests. It also covers test fees and other technical matters.
